This weekend, I proposed to Sarah on Sunday evening, February 18th.

We traveled to Sarah’s family’s house in Marietta for the weekend. Saturday morning, I spoke to Mr. Borders about proposing marriage to Sarah. The conversation quickly moved inside to include Sarah and her mother, and later that evening, the conversation expanded to include Grandparents, Siblings, and cousins (and one very jealous 2-year-old niece!)

Needless to say, by the end of the day we were practically engaged in the eyes of Sarah’s family!

The next day after church, we drove back to Mississippi. We pretty much went straight back to my parents’ house.

Now to give a little bit of back story, my Grandma told me months ago that she wanted me to use her engagement ring, the one she’s worn for nearly 60 years. When I had told my family a few weeks ago about wanting to propose to Sarah, Grandma had the ring removed by a jeweler and sized down a little bit to be a better fit for Sarah.

So when Grandma asked me after that when I’d like to pick it up, I told her I would come get it only after I talked to Sarah’s father. Franky, I just didn’t want to even have it around until I knew I could use it.

So this Sunday, as soon as we got back from Marietta, we went straight back to my parents’ house (where Grandma lives). Sarah had no idea what I had planned, and was actually assuming I’d wait at least a couple of weeks before proposing. She certainly didn’t suspect I’d ask her to marry me that night, which it why it HAD to be that night!

Since we’re currently planning for the wedding to be at Sarah’s family’s house in Marietta, I decided to propose marriage at my family’s house in Mississippi. She was taken by complete surprise!
